Reaching and grabbing objects is your baby's first step towards doing things for themselves.....feeding, playing, writing etc. Your baby is born with a grasping reflex which gradually fades away by the time they are about 6 months old. In it's place, from about 3 months, their hand eye co-ordination starts to develop and they will be able to hold things for a short time at first, then longer as they become stronger. Swiping at baby gyms is great for developing these skills, as is tracking colourful objects! We do this a lot in our baby music and sensory classes. Accompanied by playful and upbeat songs this is brilliant for your baby - combining music and development games is what it's all about, and is the basis of lots of activities in our classes.
